Okay so there is a lot of information out their that suggests tons of people still breed crickets.I say get out of the stone age and start breeding mealworms. These are the benefits of both:
Mealworms
Pros
-Easy to breed
-Require next to no maintence
-Nutrient rich and easy to gutload
-Worm like which salamanders and frogs injoy more then grasshoppers or crickets.
-Bigger meal in my opinion i mean all it takes is two mealworms for my wasps and they are good to go i think it would take 3-4 a day with crickets or more.
-Way easier to handle then having crickets jumping all over the place
Cons
-Hard to dust
-Can cause impaction in reptiles and herps
-Can burrow into the substrate
-Can harm a molting T
Now onto Crickets
Crickets
Pros
-Easy to find
-Cost less
-Eat almost anything
-Easy to dust
Cons
-Really hard to breed
-Require breeding dishes
-Have to be seperated from the babies
-Smell horrible
-Eat each other
-Require really weird setups
-Require daily if not 3-5 times a day maintence
-Jump all over the place
-Crickets live 6-8 wks
You be the judge i’d say this :
Mealworms:A++
Crickets:F
But it’s your feeders i’m not trying to make everyone go insane and start getting mealworms and blowing up crickets[Which if you do post videos on youtube it'd be funny to watch!]
Anyway hope that helps.
